The Koala Superhero

The Koala SuperheroShort tale: The Koala Superhero

The story goes that once upon a time there was a koala named Bongo, who dreamed of having special powers and saving the world. But there was a problem: Bongo had no special powers. He was just an ordinary koala, who spent his days eating eucalyptus leaves and sleeping in his tree.

One day, Bongo met a bat named Joy, who told him that he did have a special power: he could fly at night and use his sonar to find his way around. Bongo was impressed and asked Joy to teach him to fly. Joy agreed and told him to get on her back. Thus began Bongo and Joy’s adventure.

Bongo held on tight to the bat and felt the wind in his face. He loved the feeling of flying and seeing the world from above. Joy showed him the stars, the moon and the city lights. Bongo felt like a superhero and thought maybe that was his special power: flying with Joy.

But he soon realized that this was not the case. As they passed over a park, they saw some kids playing soccer. Bongo wanted to greet them and shouted, “¡Hi, kids how are you!”. But what came out of his mouth was, “¡Ha, kads haw ara yoa!”. The children were shocked and laughed at Bongo. Joy explained to him that this was the koala’s real special power: to make others speak in tongue twisters.

Bongo didn’t understand and felt embarrassed. He wanted to apologize and told them, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to offend you”. But what came out of his mouth was: “Sarra, I dadn’t maan ta affand yoa”. The children laughed more and started imitating Bongo. Joy told him not to worry, that it was a very funny power and he could use it to make people laugh.

Bongo wasn’t very convinced, but decided to try it out. He started saying random phrases, like, “The sky is blue”, “I like chocolate” or “I’m sleepy”. But what came out of his mouth was: “Tha ska as blua”, “I laka chacalata” or “I’m slaapa”. The children laughed more and more and soon joined the game. They began to say tongue twisters with Bongo, such as “Three sad tigers eat wheat in a wheat field” or “Pablito drove a nail into a bald man’s bald head”.

Bongo had a lot of fun and forgot about his dream of being a superhero. He realized that his special power was to make people happy with his words. Joy told him that he was a very special koala and that he was proud to be his friend. Bongo thanked her and told her that he was her friend too.

And that was the end of the story.
