The Dragon Princess

The Dragon PrincessShort tale: The Dragon Princess

In a kingdom far away, where the clouds were made of cotton candy and the rivers of chocolate, there lived a princess named Pilar. The princess had a very special secret: every time she laughed, she transformed into a dragon.

One day, while walking in the garden, Pilar heard two little rabbits talking:

¿Do you know what the tree said to the wind?, said the first bunny.
No, ¿what did it say?, replied the second bunny.
¡Stop pushing me!, replied the first bunny.

Hearing the joke, Pilar giggled and suddenly turned into a dragon. The frightened bunnies ran away.

Pilar, worried about their laughter, decided to seek help. She went to visit the wise owl of the forest, who told her:

Princess Pilar, to control your laughter, you must learn to take a deep breath and count to three before you laugh.

Pilar thanked the owl and continued on her way. When she arrived in town, she saw two little clowns doing tricks and telling jokes. She decided to put the owl’s advice into practice.

¿Why don’t birds use Facebook?, said the first clown.
¡Because they already have Twitter!, answered the second clown.

Pilar felt laughter rise in her throat, but she remembered the owl’s words. She took a deep breath and counted to three. To her surprise, she did not turn into a dragon.

As the days passed, Pilar practiced her technique and became adept at controlling her laughter. The kingdom was happy and calm, but Pilar knew she had to face one last test: the Great Festival of Jokes.

During the festival, everyone in the kingdom told jokes to make others laugh. Pilar was nervous, but decided to participate.

When it was her turn, Pilar went on stage and told a joke:

¿What’s a bee doing in the gym?, Pilar said.
We don’t know, ¿what does it do?, answered the audience.
¡Zum-ba!, said Pilar.

Everyone in the audience laughed out loud, including Pilar. But this time, instead of turning into a dragon, Pilar transformed into a giant, colorful butterfly.

The audience applauded and celebrated Pilar’s change. From that day on, the princess learned to control her laughter and enjoy the magic inside her. And so, in the kingdom of cotton candy clouds and chocolate rivers, everyone lived happily and always laughed together.
