Short tale: The Hare and the Tortoise
Enjoy it! Here’s the audio story!
In the animal world there lived a very proud hare, because in front of everyone he said he was the fastest and constantly laughed at the slow tortoise.
One day, the tortoise had the idea of making a strange bet to the hare.
– I’m sure I can win you a race – he said.
– Me? -asked the hare in astonishment.
– Yes, you. Let’s put our bet on that stone and see who wins the race.
The hare, very amused and confident of his victory, accepted and all the animals gathered to witness the challenge. The race was on!
With that air of superiority he had, the hare let the tortoise go and stood around, and he had plenty of time to beat such a slow creature!
Then he began to run, running as fast as the wind while the tortoise was going slowly, but without stopping. Soon, the hare got so far ahead that he decided to stop by the roadside and rest, and there he fell asleep. Meanwhile, step by step, and as lightly as he could, the tortoise continued on his way until he reached the goal.
When the hare woke up and realized what was happening, he ran with all his strength, but it was too late, the tortoise had won the race.
That day was very sad for the hare and he learned a lesson he would never forget: Never make fun of others.
END
Reflection on the story: The story teaches us a valuable lesson about arrogance and the importance of not underestimating others. The hare, who felt superior and made fun of the tortoise, lost the race because he underestimated his opponent’s abilities. On the other hand, the tortoise, although slow, was steady and persevering on his way to the finish line.
The moral of the story is that one should not underestimate others because of their appearance, skills or speed, as they may surprise us. It also emphasizes the importance of humility and modesty, rather than arrogance and mockery.
