Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the BeastShort tale: Beauty and the Beast

Once upon a time, an enchantress turned a handsome Prince into a hideous beast, realizing that he was a selfish young man with a heart of stone.

The sorceress left an enchanted rose. If the Prince did not find true love before the last petal fell, he would be a beast forever.

In a nearby village, Belle lived with her father. She wanted to live adventures like the ones she read about in her beloved books.

Gaston wanted to marry Belle, but she loathed him.

She thought he was an unpleasant and uncouth fellow. And Gaston didn’t understand why Belle always read. “It’s not right for a woman to read so much”, Gaston said.

Belle’s Papa-Maurice-was an inventor. His latest invention was an automatic wood chipper, and he was going to enter it in an invention fair contest.

“You’re going to win first place at the fair!” said Belle.

On his way to the fair, Maurice got lost in the woods. A pack of wolves chased him, all the way to the entrance of a castle.

Unsure of what he would find inside, he cautiously entered.

Maurice could never have imagined such a horrible beast as the one he had encountered.

The Beast was furious that Maurice had only gone to see how ugly he was. And with no mercy whatsoever, he locked the unwanted visitor in the dungeon.

When Maurice’s horse returned home without him, Belle went looking for him and found him locked up.

Belle begged the Beast to release Maurice. “Lock me up,” said Belle.

The Beast agreed, but on the condition that Belle would stay in the castle forever.

During her first night, Belle met the servants of the castle. The spell had turned them into enchanted objects.

They were gracious, very friendly, and treated Belle as an honored guest.

At dinner time, Belle did not accept the Beast’s invitation. That made him roar with frustration!

He was anxious to break the spell, and felt that Belle was his only hope.

Mrs. Potts-a teapot-and Lumiére-a candlestick-recommended the Beast to be patient, but above all, kind.

Later, Belle found the magic rose the sorceress left behind.

The Beast appeared, and grabbed the rose before Belle could touch it. “Get out of here!” he shouted.

Belle fled from the castle. But she was attacked by the same wolves that had chased her Papa.

The Beast risked his life to save Belle. And within days, she began to see a good side to the Beast.

One evening, the Beast invited Belle to dinner. And this time, she accepted.

After dinner, they went dancing. As they twirled around the ballroom, the Beast realized that he was falling in love with Belle.

Out of love, he let Belle go back to see her Dad.

When Gaston learned that Belle referred to the Beast affectionately, jealousy and fury took hold of him. And without waiting another minute, he headed for the castle.

Gaston wounded the Beast, and then fell from the roof.

Belle carried the Beast to safety. “Please don’t leave me,” he cried. “I love you”.

As Belle spoke, the last petal of the rose fell. Then a shower of sparks filled the sky. The Beast began to transform…

…into a handsome Prince!

The enchanted objects were filled with glee, seeing that they too were being transformed into humans.

They all watched as their Prince and Belle fell in love again.
