Mulan (Disney Princess)
Short tale: Mulan (Disney Princess)
Enjoy it! Here’s the audio story!
Many years ago, in ancient China, there lived a beautiful young girl named Mulan. She lived with her parents and her dog, whom she called Little Brother.
Mulan’s father had been a great warrior, but he injured his leg during a battle.
Since she had no siblings, Mulan felt a responsibility to uphold the family’s honor.
One day, a man came to the village with news from the Emperor. The Huns, China’s enemies, had invaded.
The Emperor ordered one man from each family to join the imperial army. Mulan’s Dad was to fight once again….
Mulan knew that her Dad no longer had the strength to fight. And that very night, he made a great decision.
After praying to her ancestors, she cut her hair with a sword. And then he put on his Dad’s uniform.
Mulan rode her Dad’s horse – Khan. And so, dressed as a man, she slipped away while everyone slept.
She hurried to take her Dad’s place in the Imperial Army. One way or another, she would do something that would bring honor to her family.
When Mulan arrived at the Imperial Army training camp, she met Captain Li Shang. “What is your name?” He asked Mulan.
“My name? It’s, uh… Ping!” Mulan said. To Mulan’s surprise, Shang and all the other soldiers thought she was a man!
Shang went to great lengths to teach his soldiers to be strong and disciplined.
The training was far from easy for Mulan; and frustrated, Shang asked her to return home.
To gain the respect of the soldiers, Mulan managed to climb a very tall pole and took an arrow that was at the tip.
That was the hardest part of the training, and Mulan had done it!
Mulan was accompanied by a dragon named Mushu, sent by the Ancestors; and also by a cricket named Cri-Kee.
Together, they wrote a fake letter ordering Shang and his soldiers to go after the Huns.
That would be the perfect opportunity for Mulan to do something to honor her family.
Following the orders in the message, Shang led his soldiers into the mountains. Suddenly, the entire army was surrounded by thousands of Huns.
Mulan had an idea.
He took the last cannon they had; and used the fire of Mushu-the dragon-to ignite the gun. The cannon caused a gigantic avalanche of snow to fall on the Huns.
Even with the Huns under the snow, they were not out of danger. The avalanche was advancing straight toward Mulan and his friends.
Khan, Mulan’s faithful horse, came to the rescue. She mounted him, and managed to rescue Shang before he was buried under the snow.
Mulan was wounded during the battle. Upon healing her, a doctor realized that “Ping” was a woman.
Because of the deception, Shang had no choice but to expel Mulan from the army.
Mulan was left sitting with Khan, Mushu, and Cri-Kee in the middle of nowhere. She felt she had let down her family, and herself.
But suddenly, she heard voices from the Huns.
Mulan ran to the Imperial City to warn Shang. “The Huns are alive!” Mulan said. “They’re in the city!”
But Shang could not believe Mulan, he had fooled him before. Mulan tried to alert others, but no one believed him.
The leader of the Huns, Shan-Yu, captured the Emperor; but Mulan and Shang rescued him.
Furious, Shan-Yu chased Mulan across the palace roof – just as she had planned.
Mulan took Shan-Yu’s sword and used it to pin her coat to the roof. Since Shan-Yu could not move, Mushu and Cri-Kee threw a cannon at her.
The force of the blast threw Mushu and Cri-Kee into the air. Mulan and Shang fell together as fireworks filled the sky with light and color.
Everyone celebrated. The Huns had been defeated, and the Imperial City was safe!
The Emperor was immensely grateful to Mulan. “You have saved us all” – he said. And then something extraordinary happened: the Emperor bowed to Mulan.
Seeing what the Emperor did, everyone in the square bowed to Mulan.
The Emperor asked her to be part of the council, but Mulan knew it was time to return to her family.
At home, Mulan gave the sword and the Emperor’s emblem to her Dad.
“The greatest honor and gift, is to have you as my daughter” – said her Dad. “I missed you so much.”
“Excuse me, does Mulan live here?” – Shang said. He brought with him, Mulan’s helmet… and she invited him to stay for dinner.
