Once upon a time, a little red hen found a grain of wheat.

¿Who will sow this wheat?, asked the little hen.

– Not me, said the pig.

– Not me, said the cat.

– Not me, said the dog.

– Not me, said the turkey.

– Well then, said the little red hen, I’ll do it. ¡Clo, clo!

And she sowed the grain of wheat. Soon the wheat began to grow, peeping out of the ground. The sun shone on it and the rain fell, and the wheat kept growing and growing until it was very tall and ripe.

¿Who will cut this wheat?, asked the little hen.

– Not me, said the pig.

– Not me, said the cat.

– Not me, said the dog.

– Not me, said the turkey.

– Well then, said the little red hen, I’ll do it. ¡Clo, clo!

And she cut the wheat.

¿Who will thresh this wheat?, asked the little hen.

– Not me, said the pig.

– Not me, said the cat.

– Not me, said the dog.

– Not me, said the turkey.

– Well then, said the little red hen, I’ll do it. ¡Clo, clo!

And she threshed the wheat.

¿Who will take this wheat to the mill to be made into flour?, asked the little hen.

– Not me, said the pig.

– Not me, said the cat.

– Not me, said the dog.

– Not me, said the turkey.

– Well then, said the little red hen, I’ll do it. ¡Clo, clo!

And she took the wheat to the mill and soon came back with a bag of flour.

¿Who will knead this flour?, asked the little hen.

– Not me, said the pig.

– Not me, said the cat.

– Not me, said the dog.

– Not me, said the turkey.

– Well then, said the little red hen, I’ll do it. ¡Clo, clo!

And she kneaded the flour and baked a nice loaf of bread.

¿Who will eat this bread?, asked the little hen.

– Me, said the pig.

– Me, said the cat.

– Me, said the dog.

– Me, said the turkey.

– Well, no, said the little red hen. I’ll eat it. ¡Clo, clo!

And then the little hen ate the bread along with her chicks.
